Around the World in San Diego: A Restaurant Guide

San Diego is the 8th most populous city in the U.S., with a population of approximately 1.4 million people. With its location directly adjacent to the Mexican border, its Navy and Marine Corps bases, and its emergence as a biotech hub, it’s no wonder that San Diego is home to a diverse population of people from all different backgrounds, countries, and cultures.

Food is an integral part of culture. Food is a way that stories, traditions, skills, and connection are passed down from one generation to another, and a way that we can connect with other cultures outside of our own. Exploring food allows us to experience new things- tastes, textures, flavors, eating environments, and cooking styles. And while each culture’s food may differ, we all have one thing in common. We all eat!

As we enter into April, National Nutrition Month may have come to an end, but we want to continue to “Celebrate a World of Flavors”. Because of San Diego’s large and diverse population, we are lucky to have access to a wide variety of restaurants and grocery stores that specialize in foods from all around the world. We compiled a list of just a few of our favorite restaurants and grocery stores/markets as a guide to international cuisine in San Diego. We hope you’ll give them a try!

P.S. This is only a small portion of the great restaurants in San Diego. Our list could have gone on and on! If you have any favorite international restaurants in San Diego that aren’t listed here, we invite you to send them our way. We always welcome recommendations for delicious food and love to highlight local businesses.
